Vaughn Shirey graduate from Drexel with a B.S. in Environmental Science and minors in bioinformatics and sustainability in the built environment in 2017. At Drexel, Vaughn studied crane fly systematics with Dr. Jon Gelhaus and also worked under the mentorship of Steven Dilliplane at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. Following graduation, Vaughn moved to Helsinki, Finland to work under Dr. Pedro Cardoso on a Fulbright Study/Research grant. There they investigated data bias in biodiversity databases. Currently, Vaughn is a PhD student under the mentorship of Dr. Leslie Ries at Georgetown University, studying Arctic butterfly ecology and evolution. They are a recipient of an National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.
