Bethany Shumaker

Bethany Shumaker

I will be graduating in the spring of 2012 with a major in Civil Engineering concentrating in Water Resource Engineering.  During my co-ops I discovered my passion for understanding the delicate balance between the human and environmental needs of water. In particular, I am interested in finding sustainable water distribution solutions in areas with limited water supply systems.  For example, my Senior Design project is establishing water distribution systems near the epicenter of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.  In my time at Drexel, I have also been very involved in community service, most notably, I was vice president of Drexel Circle K.

As a recipient of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Fellowship, I will spend the entire upcoming year in Germany.  The year will be split between taking classes in German and Civil Engineering, as well as a 5 month internship period.  I am excited to be one of 75 participants of the program to experience everyday life in Germany and I look forward to gaining more experience in the field of civil engineering in both the classroom and the work place.
