Bio:Ryan is a 3rd year BS/MS Software Engineering student in the College of Computing and Informatics and in the Pennoni Honors College. His primary interests involve robotic control systems and using machine learning and knowledge representation and reasoning to enhance the interactivity and expressiveness of robots.
Ryan has been with ExCITe working on software development on HUBO since 2013 and is currently doing his second co-op here. In the past Ryan has developed with a team of other undergraduates software to control HUBO the humanoid robot and make the robot easier to use for other researchers. In addition to this software development, Ryan has been a driving force for the increase of external sensing capabilities on HUBO. Ryan currently is continuing his development and operation of HUBO as well as researching ways of making HUBO a more intelligent robot. Ryan hopes to use machine learning as well as knowledge representation and reasoning techniques to have HUBO make sense of the sensor data it receives. Making HUBO more expressive and interactive through the use of these artificial intelligence techniques is one of the major goals for Ryan on his co-op.
