'A Frank Conversation' Series
"A Frank Conversation" series, also known as our "Virtual Kitchen Table Conversations," aims to increase awareness about different topics related to specific aspects of diversity. The series, offered in partnership with members of the University community, provides education through personal experiences grounded in broad contexts to promote an inclusive culture of belonging at the University.
Frank Conversation: Generational Diversity
The Frank Conversation focused on a wide range of topics related to aging and the working and living experiences of different generations. During this session, panelists discussed stigmas and disparities associated with the aging experiences that are unique to interacting with multiple generations on campus. Drexel’s Age-Friendly University designation was highlighted, and we explored what aging means in America today and how it intersects with the many other identities we have.
A Frank Conversation: Disability Inclusion and Ableism
This panel discussed the history of the disability rights movement, leading to the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973). The legal landscape set the tone for compliance in public and private settings, granting individuals with disabilities with protections to equal access and equal opportunity. The Frank Conversation highlighted diversity through the lens of disability and identified the barriers presented by ableist views and biases.
Divergent Thinking: A Frank Conversation About Neurodiversity
This panel discussion addressed the increasing familiarity with the term "neurodiversity" through a conversation grounded in the experiences of neurodivergent students, faculty, and professional staff members in the Drexel community. In addition to learning from the experiences of our panelists, we also explored the definition and meaning of neurodiversity.
