Participation in undergraduate research offers students the opportunity to make substantive contributions to the academic body of knowledge. For students interested in research, undergraduates can work with faculty in their research labs for experience.
Drexel offers several options for students who wish to pursue research as undergraduate:
DISCOVER is Drexel's online database of available research projects. Faculty members are able to post open positions, and all undergraduate students are able to access this information, peruse the job postings, and apply for positions. Students can sign into Discover using their DrexelOne username and password.
STAR Scholars Program
The STAR Scholars Program allows first-year students to work closely with a faculty mentor on a research, scholarly, or creative project. To be eligible to apply for the STAR Scholars Program, students must:
- Be a freshman
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or better
- Have an interest in research and be willing to commit to 40 hours/week of research for 10 weeks over the summer while residing in campus housing (provided by STAR)
In some cases undergraduate students can earn credit for research as independent study courses toward their Mechanical Engineering degree. The Mechanical Engineering Department conducts research in a variety of areas. Review the Faculty Research Guide to learn more about current research.
