The English Language Center at Drexel University offers J-1 Scholar testing services and proficiency testing.
J-1 Scholar English Proficiency Testing
The Department of State requires that J-1 Scholars have sufficient proficiency in the English language, as determined by an objective measurement of English language proficiency, to participate in their Drexel program.
J-1 Exchange Visitors coming to Drexel are asked to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score or other certifiable credentials, including Level B2 on CEFR. A passing test score for TOEFL is the minimum combined score of 79. A passing test score for IELTS is a combined minimum score of 6.5. If unable to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score, J-1 candidates may request a proficiency interview from the English Language Center. This 15-minute interview is conducted by Zoom with a qualified English as a Second Language professional.
More information about the test format and registration procedure can be found on the J-1 Scholar Proficiency Testing page.
