Between 2008 and 2014, John and Jinnie Chapel have donated over $3.5 million to the Drexel LeBow College of Business, including a $2.5 million gift endowing the dean’s chair. The Chapels also support Drexel’s Department of Athletics by establishing the John and Jinnie Chapel ACHIEVE Center and Dragon Lounge, where all of the University’s current Division I varsity student-athletes can receive support in academic, leadership, career and personal development, as well as engage in civic engagement opportunities.

Exhibition from March 29, 2019 through July 26, 2019. The late Matt Phillips (1927–2017) was a painter, printmaker and art educator. He was born in New York and studied literature at the University of Chicago where he earned his master’s degree. He first studied art at the Barnes Foundation in Merion, Pennsylvania, and traveled throughout Europe studying painting. He taught art in Paris from 1962 to 1964. When he returned to the United States, he taught at Bard College in upstate New York for 27 years.

Exhibition from January 25, 2019 through March 30, 2019. In 2017 over 70,000 people died from a drug overdose in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Half of these deaths were a result of heroin use and exposure to the fatal synthetic opioid fentanyl. For Philadelphians, the crisis descends over just about every neighborhood, carrying a varied impact. Philadelphia’s overdose rate is horrifically high – in 2017 alone, 1,217 people died from an overdose, an estimated 1,100 people were lost last year.

Exhibition from December 14, 2018 through March 15, 2019. By looking at materials under a microscope, scientists can understand how things work at very small scales and even at the atomic level. Sometimes, researchers see a scientific image that resembles a piece of art or has a beautiful feature. These images are often captured using electron microscopes and are in gray-scale. Scientists will then colorize the images using photo editing software to emphasize the unique features captured at the nanoscale. All of the images in this exhibition are from the A. J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute NanoArtography Competition (established in 2016 by Babak Anasori, PhD) an international competition which helps broaden the public’s understanding of the world at the atomic level and brings attention to Drexel’s groundbreaking materials science research.

Exhibition from August 9, 2018 through December 14, 2018. Tokujiro Nishi, a Japanese artist who blended eastern and western painting styles, will be exhibited by The Drexel Collection for the second time. Tokujiro Nishi, who was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1929 and spent his entire life using a blend of Eastern and Western styles and techniques in his art. Nishi was a student of Matsao Hao, who was inspired by the Japanese style of art he learned at the Tokyo Fine Arts School and the Western art being introduced to Japan in the early 20th century. Nishi joined Hato’s artist group Sakujitsu-Kati in 1949, when he first had his art exhibited as a 20-year-old. Since then, Nishi’s art has been exhibited at the Tokyo Modern Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, as well as in exhibits across the world.
