Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college students. As a member of the Dragon community, you may help prevent the tragedy of suicide. The most effective way to prevent suicide is to know the warning signs, take those signs seriously, and respond appropriately.

The Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) curriculum is a nationally recognized, evidence-based program for suicide prevention. Much like CPR, QPR is designed to teach anyone the lifesaving skills of recognizing warning signs of suicide, knowing what to say when someone is believed to be at risk for suicide, and referring persons in distress to campus and community resources.

QPR Gatekeeper Training

Members of the Drexel Community have the opportunity to participate in training to become QPR Gatekeepers. Participants (Gatekeepers) will learn to:

• Recognize warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.
• Understand common myths and facts associated with suicide.
• Receive tips for asking questions about suicide.
• Know how to offer hope.
• Learn methods for persuading people who are suicidal to get help.
• Learn ways of referring to University and local resources.

QPR Training Schedule

Typically, Gatekeeper trainings are offered 1-2 times each quarter via Zoom or in-person. Presentations will be capped at 40 individuals per training and should have a minimum of 20 participants. Gatekeeper trainings will last 90 minutes to allow for time for the presentation and participant questions. All participants will receive a QPR Certificate after the session.

Additional training sections can be arranged if your student organization, group, or department has either under 20 participants or over 40 individuals, or if your group cannot attend the scheduled sessions. Please email qpr@drexel.edu for all requests, allowing a minimum of two weeks notice.
