Emotional Support Animals (sometimes called Assistance Animals or Therapy Animals) are often used as part of a medical treatment plan as therapy animals and are not considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Assistance Animals that are not Service Animals under the ADA may still be permitted, in certain circumstances, in University Housing pursuant to the Fair Housing Act and as a reasonable accommodation determined by Disability Resources. In an effort to practice within the expertise of the Counseling Center's licensed professions in the most ethical way, professional staff do not provide assessments regarding the need for emotional support animals.
