Notes and Excuses Policy

As a general policy, the Drexel University Counseling Center does not provide excuses or notes for mental health concerns that may result in missed classes, labs, work, co-op, exams, or assignments. This policy is consistent with the recommendations of the American College Health Association and is similar to policies found at other major universities across the country. Students who require specific accommodations due to mental health concerns or general medical issues must be registered with Disability Resources. Disability Resources is the only office permitted to issue documents which will allow faculty to accommodate students' special needs. If you have an established history of use of services, the Counseling Center may be able to provide Disability Resources with the documentation necessary to justify students' requests for accommodations due to a mental health issue. In instances where specific accommodations may not be appropriate, we encourage you to speak and work directly with your professors or academic advisor regarding missed work.
