Banner Effort Reporting System Lifts Off!

Procurement Services would like to announce important procedural information related to the closing out of Fiscal Year 2016 and how to smoothly make the transition into Fiscal Year 2017.

Research Accounting Services (RAS) is pleased to announce the launch of the new Banner Effort Reporting System on April 25th, 2016.  The Banner Effort Reporting System works in tandem with the Banner Self- Service Labor Redistribution System managed by HRIS.  Both systems will be used for all Drexel University Schools and Colleges and the Academy of Natural Sciences.  The Maximus Effort Reporting System (ERS) will still be utilized for all effort reporting adjustments for any period ending on or before December 31, 2015.

As part of the roll-out of Banner Effort Reporting, the University is adopting a quarterly effort reporting cycle for all schools and colleges and the Academy of Natural Sciences.  Increasing the frequency from bi-annual reporting to quarterly reporting for the University schools and colleges will allow more timely changes to effort and close-outs.  The Academy of Natural Science will transition from timesheet based effort reporting to the new Banner system which allows consistent processing systems and timelines across entities.  A future announcement will be made when the Effort Reporting Policy is approved.

An important distinction between Banner Effort Reporting and the Maximus Effort Reporting System (ERS) is that Banner Effort Reporting is integrated with the Labor Redistribution module in Banner.  Departments required to complete effort reports to be compliant with Uniform Guidance will find that establishing a routine of keeping labor redistributions current will make the effort reporting pre-review and certification process almost effortless.

HRIS and RAS have jointly held four training sessions during March and April on the new systems.  Research Accounting Services will be offering additional training sessions for Department Administrators and/or Pre-Reviewers in April and May.  The training is entitled “New Labor Distribution and Effort Reporting Systems” and is being held at both the Center City and Main campuses.  You can register for this training in Career Pathways.  The training will highlight the labor redistribution process and provide for a full demonstration of the effort reporting process.

Department Administrators and/or Pre-Reviewers responsible for labor distributions for their departments must also attend the Labor Redistribution training offered by HRIS prior to attending the Banner Effort Reporting System training.  Having a base understanding of how labor redistributions work will allow you to more fully understand the integration between the two systems.  Please contact to schedule training for your area.
