Living Our Values: Drexel's Code of Conduct

Video Transcript

John Fry, President

  • As we harness experiential learning, research, scholarship and collaborative partnerships toward serving Drexel University's mission, it is essential that we work and live faithfully by our Code of Conduct.
  • By collectively sharing responsibility for the welfare of our university, all of us — students, faculty and professional staff — not only ensure the excellence and sustainability of our work, but also uphold our shared values in our relationships with each other and the world around us.
  • Those shared values, as stated in the Drexel 2030 Strategic Plan, are:
    • inclusion,
    • impact,
    • integration,
    • innovation,
    • And above all, integrity.

Helen Bowman, Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Operating Officer:

  • Our Code of Conduct signals Drexel's commitment to the highest ethical principles.
  • It officially confirms that those responsible for conducting the affairs of the University and administering its policies and programs must perform their duties fairly, honestly, impartially, and consistently — free from personal preferences, biases or prejudices.
  • Compliance with our Code fosters impartial dealings with — and reliable reporting to — federal, state and local agencies.
  • And it continues Drexel's long-standing reputation of maintaining deep and productive relationships of trust among external partners, stakeholders, and communities.
  • The tenets of the University's Code of Conduct remain central to our responsibility as stewards, both in Philadelphia community and throughout the world.

Paul E. Jensen, Nina Henderson Provost, Executive Vice President and University Professor:

  • University communities, and the environments they create, depend on the integrity, honesty, good citizenship and professional conduct of their members.
  • Drexel's Code of Conduct shapes the purpose-driven academic environment and ethos our university is known for.
  • It allows us to uphold our commitment to free and open inquiry, intellectual honesty, and both personal and professional integrity.
  • Drexel's culture of compliance allows us to offer an inclusive learning environment, immersive experiential learning, diverse external partnerships, transdisciplinary and applied research, and creative activity.
  • As we advance the mission and values of our strategic plan, we must remember that our Code of Conduct guides everything we do.

Kim Upshaw, Vice President and Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer:
