Ali Kenner Receives Career Development Award and the CoAS Teaching Excellence Award
May 31, 2016
Ali Kenner, PhD, assistant professor of politics and science, technology and society, has received two Drexel University faculty awards: a 2016-2017 Career Development Award and the 2016 CoAS Teaching Excellence Award! Professor Kenner plans to use her career development award to learn new theoretical frameworks for her Philadelphia-based research; this will help her prepare to teach a new STS Lab course in spring 2017. The award will also be used to host a series of guest speakers in conjunction with the STS colloquium lecture series for 2016-17.
In our offices, it is clear that Professor Kenner's teaching and service extends beyond the classroom, from acting as faculty host for STS lectures to running a local research project on environmental health governance where she shows students how to conduct and analyze data using innovative social science tools. She and the students meet weekly outside of regular class time and the rest of their busy lives. You can see some of this work at envirohealthsense.org.
Dr. Kenner teaches undergraduates and graduates in Politics and Science, Technology & Society. She is working on a forthcoming book on asthmatic spaces. For more information about Dr. Kenner, see her faculty page.
