Here is a round up of news from the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy:
Mimi Sheller, Professor of Sociology in CoAS and Director of the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy, will be awarded the honorary degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, from Roskilde University, Denmark, on 18 September 2015. This ceremony will follow directly on the heels of the joint conference of the International Association for the History of Transport, Traffic and Mobility (of which Sheller is President) and the Cosmobilities Network, to be held 14-17 September in Caserta, Italy.
Sheller was invited in June 2015 to provide an expert review for the World Bank's Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD) for their project on "Institutional Frameworks for Addressing Migratory Movements in Context of Environmental Change." In April Sheller also provided an expert review for the Harvard Graduate School of Design for a "Mobility" report within the project "A Sustainable Future for Exuma," a collaboration among the Government of The Bahamas, the Bahamas National Trust, and the GSD.
Mobilities Graduate Research Assistant Julia M. Hildebrand has presented work at several international conferences, including at the GeoMedia Conference [link http://geomedia.se] in Karlstad, Sweden, in May 2015, for which she received an International Travel Award to give the paper "Mobilized and Mediatized: Filmic Depictions of Travel and Transfer at the Beginning of the 20th and 21st Century." Professor Sheller also gave a keynote address at this conference on "Uneven Topologies of Geomedia in Post-Disaster Worlds." Watch a video of the lecture below.
