Biospectroscopy Group Research Featured on the Cover of Biochemistry

October 1, 2013

Prof. Reinhard Schweitzer-Stenner’s PhD students Jonathan B. Soffer, Leah Pandiscia, and undergraduate Emma Fradkin published a cover article on “The (Not Completely Irreversible) Population of a Misfolded State of Cytochrome c under Folding Conditions” in the Journal Biochemistry. (Soffer et al. (2013) 52, 1397–1408). Describing a previously unseen frustrated state of this protein produced under conditions that promote a misfolded ligation state of the heme iron. The cover by J. Soffer pictures is an overlay of 300 states of oxidized cytochrome c, starting from the “native” fully folded state to an unfolded state.
