The College of Arts and Sciences’ five-story biowall, housed in the Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, continues to garner praise and attention, this time at the 2012 Plantscape Industry Expo in Las Vegas. On August 16th, Parker Urban Greenscapes, which completed the biowall’s installation last September, received the Expo’s Living Wall Award of Excellence as well as the “Best in Show” Judges’ Award for its work at Drexel. The prestigious “Best in Show” award recognizes excellence and professionalism in the interior landscaping industry.

The College’s biowall is the largest living biofilter in North America, made up of 1,500 tropical plants and organisms that improve air quality. Thanks to the collaboration among Drexel University, NEDLAW Living Walls, Diamond Schmitt Architects, and Parker Interior Plantscape, faculty and students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering have a living laboratory with which to study air purifying processes.

Parker Urban Greenscapes is a division of Parker Interior Plantscape, headquartered in Scotch Plains, NJ. The company specializes in the design and installation of interior landscaping, green walls, and green roofs and currently maintains the biowall at the College of Arts and Sciences.
