Arts and Sciences Symposium The Race to Health Equity

The College of Arts and Sciences has partnered with the College of Medicine, College of Nursing and Health Professions and Dornsife School of Public Health to present the 2024 Arts and Sciences Symposium: The Race to Health Equity.  

This year's symposium will take place on Wednesday, May 15 in Drexel's Main Auditorium and focus on Health Equity and Wellness, one of Drexel’s Areas of Excellence and Opportunity (AEO). Health Equity and Wellness involves topics and expertise related to community health, prevention and mental wellbeing across programs, research, partnerships and clinical practice. This AEO is focused on improving outcomes, diversifying methods and expanding access across populations, especially local communities and underserved populations.   

The symposium will begin at 2 p.m. with a panel of faculty members from across the University, moderated by Veronica D. Carey, PhD, CPRP, CDE© from the College of Nursing and Health Professions. The panel will be comprised of Professor of Psychology Naomi Goldstein, PhD; College of Nursing and Health Professions faculty members Judy Ensslin, MS, RDN, LDN and Monica Harmon, MSN, MPH, RN; Jourdyn A. Lawrence, PhD, MSPH, from the Dornsife School of Public Health and Annette Gadegbeku, MD, from the College of Medicine. 

At 4 p.m., Drexel University President John Fry will moderate a panel of leaders and experts in the healthcare field, featuring Johnson & Johnson Chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato, to discuss how their organization marries passion and purpose to reimagine the future of healthcare.  

Drexel’s Vice President for Health and Health Equity, Loretta Sweet Jemmott, PhD, MSN, RN, FAAN, an expert in health promotion research and one of the nation’s foremost investigators in HIV/AIDS prevention, will introduce the panel, which also includes Danielle De Feo, MBA '02,Patient Engagement Strategy Leader, U.S. Innovative Medicine organization, Johnson & Johnson; Michelle Kramer, MD, MPH '07, Vice President, Head of Cross Therapeutic Area Delivery, Innovative Medicine, Johnson & Johnson and Howard Reid, MBA, Global Head, Global Health Equity, Johnson & Johnson.
