Physics Colloquium: Do Outreach. And Do It Well.

Thursday, February 6, 2020

3:30 PM-4:30 PM

Shannon Swilley Greco, MSSE, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory

There is an urgent need for scientists as ambassadors of their fields. Any scientist receiving tax-payer dollars for their research is usually required to communicate their work to the public... and it will get them more tax-payer dollars. Communicating to those outside your field is a critical skill - it gets your work noticed (bringing in more research dollars), invites collaboration across fields, and contributes to a thriving, growing field as more people are drawn to it through exposure. We need more people doing outreach, and we need them to do it well. This talk will point you to the tools to do so effectively through workshops, online resources, and a network of scientists and education and public outreach (EPO) professionals.
