One Book, One Philadelphia Writing Workshop Series Kicks Off In February
January 22, 2013
The Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing is gearing up for its annual series of writing workshops next month, beginning February 13th, 2013. Supporting the Free Library of Philadelphia’s One Book, One Philadelphia initiative—a program that promotes reading, literacy, and book discussion throughout the City of Brotherly Love—the series will bring together book lovers for a discussion of Julie Otsuka’s The Buddha in the Attic, One Book’s 2013 reading selection.
Participants will explore various topics in the workshop series, from their ancestors’ immigration narratives to their own personal experiences with immigration, all in an effort to give voice to their own distinct experiences.
The writing workshop series will take place around the tables in the main lobby of the Marks Intercultural Center (30 S. 33rd Street, on the corner of 33rd and Chestnut Streets) from 2-4 PM on February 13th, 20th and 27th, and March 13th, 2013. Workshops will be led by faculty members in Drexel’s Department of English and Philosophy, and will give participants the opportunity to write fiction, poetry or creative nonfiction in a supportive setting.
Open to writers of all levels, beginning to advanced. Admission is free but space is limited. For more information or to RSVP, contact Harriet Levin Millan, director of the Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
