Promoting Father Involvement in Caring for Newborns

Katharine Buek, PhD, a postdoctoral research fellow working under the mentorship of Roberta Waite, EdD, professor and assistant dean of Academic & Community Integration and director of Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Family Health Services, will present results of her research with NICU and postpartum nurses at the American Public Health Association and Expo in November.

Promoting Father Involvement in Caring for Newborns: A Qualitative Study of Nurse Attitudes and Practices is an exploration of nurse attitudes and practices toward engaging fathers in newborn care in postpartum and NICU settings, conducted with nurses in four major urban hospitals in Texas.

The study is also currently under review at the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecological and Neonatal Nursing.
