Waite Named Nursing Excellence Award Finalist
March 29, 2013
Congratulations to Roberta Waite, PhD, who was named a 2013 Philadelphia Tri-State Nurse.com Nursing Excellence Regional Finalist. She was nominated in the Advancing and Leading the Profession category, one of six award categories that also include Clinical Care: Inpatient, Education and Membership, Home, Community, and Ambulatory Care, Patient and Staff Management, and Volunteerism and Service. She is one of a small number of nurses who will be honored at the Nurse.com Nursing Excellence GEM Awards on May 7, 2013. At the event, one nurse in each category will be named the regional winner and those six individuals will move on to the national program as representatives of the Philadelphia Tri-State region. National awards will be announced in the fall.
“Roberta Waite is a teacher’s teacher,” said Dean Gloria Donnelly. “She connects with students in personal and inspiring ways. She’s always ultimately prepared to work with students and to teach them how to work with patients and staff. She is passionate about ending health disparities.” Waite was recognized for her excellence by the Macy Foundation in 2011 when she was one of only five professionals named Macy Faculty Scholars. “We are very fortunate to have Waite on the faculty of Drexel University,” Donnelly concluded.
A nurse nominated for the Advancing and Leading the Profession category, as described by Nurse.com, is “An RN who is well-known and respected as a visionary, innovative leader, and change agent, who moves the profession forward through work in patient care administration, education or research, or strengthens it through other professional activities, endeavors or contributions.” Waite commented, “I believe my work stemming from leadership development and creating the Macy Leadership Program was a critical component.”
