Ventura Interviewed by Reuters on Breastfeeding and Childhood Obesity

June 12, 2013

Alison Ventura, MD, an assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, was interviewed for an article posted to the Reuters Health website on March 12 called “Breastfeeding may not ward off childhood obesity.” The article’s argument stresses that, while breastfeeding is a good practice with multiple health benefits, it may not prevent obesity during childhood, contrary to what past research has suggested.

“Maybe we shouldn’t be touting breastfeeding as an obesity prevention method, but it’s still important,” Ventura said before going on to recommend that parents learn the appropriate times to introduce specific foods to their baby’s diet.
