Mulhorn Invited by U.S. Social Security to Discuss Policy Change
June 12, 2013
Kristine Mulhorn, PhD, an associate professor and Chair of the Health Administration Department, was invited by the United States Social Security Administration to their first meeting to discuss making the International Classification of Functioning and Health (ICF) the function status federal standard in the United States. The SSA asked researchers in the field to work together in an effort to create more consistent definitions throughout federal programs.
Some of the tasks Mulhorn and the group will help tackle are determining functional requirements for vendors and federal agencies, developing a timeline and plan for handling subject matter experts and topics, and determining the legal steps- like certifications and rulemaking- and what role federal agencies, advocacy groups and other public entities can play in this process.
