Books and Bagels is a new event that will be held every month for graduate students to discuss and appreciate current research across the disciplines. The most recent installment took place on July 27 at noon in the Center City Campus’ Bellet Building. Gary Childs, Center City Librarian, was the moderator of the event. Although presentations are given by graduate students only, undergraduate students are encouraged to attend.

“This program is the result of a commitment from the Office of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Student Association. We felt it was necessary for our graduate students to be able to have an opportunity to present their research in a discussion format and learn about the amazing research their peers are doing at Drexel,” commented Natalie Marciano, Director of the Office of Graduate Studies.

Books and Bagels was started in January 2012 on the University City campus and has taken place monthly since its initiation. The main campus students have shown a strong response and interest in Books and Bagels, so program leaders want to include more Center City campus students as well.

Presentations on July 27 included:

• “Evapotranspiration and Atmospheric Water Vapor” by Kimberly DiGiovanni, PhD candidate, Environmental Engineering 
• “Coming to and Becoming a Palliative Care Nurse: A Grounded Theory Study” by Jim Trainor, Registered Nurse First Assistant 
• “Manufacturing to Assemble Biological Material for Tissue Engineering Applications” by Jessica Snyder, PhD candidate, Mechanical Engineering
