Patricia Shewokis, PhD, a professor in both the Nutrition Sciences and the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences Departments, will be featured on the Discovery Channel on January 17. The segment explores Functional Near Infrared (NFNIR) Imaging technology that allows researchers to monitor the brain’s activity during normal daily activities. “The device is Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy,” Shewokis begins, “And this is a device that measures oxygenation in the blood and we’re using it in an application of a specific area of the brain…the prefrontal cortex.” Be sure to tune in on January 17 or wait until we share the link to the video clip in our next issue of Chartings.
