Christiana Awosan, a marriage and family therapist and doctoral candidate in the Couple and Family Therapy Department, received the prestigious John and Harriette McAdoo Award. Established by the Ethnic Minorities Section of the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). This award is distributed every year to one candidate and provides financial assistance for the completion of their doctoral dissertation. Before creating the award, Drs. John and Harriette McAdoo had thoroughly studied the different dynamics of African American families, and wanted the recipient of the award to focus their dissertation on a similar or related topic. Through her dissertation, Ms. Awosan plans to explore intimate relationships between African American men and women, as well as the dynamics, experiences, and predispositions involved in cultivating and maintaining those relationships. She was presented with the award this year on November 2 at NCFR’s annual conference in Phoenix, Arizona.
