Portwood and MacFadyen Give Geriatric Nursing Presentations in Cameroon

Cheryl Portwood, PhD, and Jean MacFadyen, PhD, presented lectures on developments in geriatric nursing to audiences at the Saint Francis School of Health Sciences in Cameroon, Africa. Saint Francis is well-known in the country for introducing professionalism and technology in care provided to the elderly. Portwood and MacFadyen spent several weeks at the school’s facility developing a post-graduate curriculum. Both women have committed to continue their mentorship efforts there in years to come.
The head administrator of Saint Francis and the Saint Veronica Clinic, Maboh Michel Nkwati, expressed his excitement about receiving assistance from the College of Nursing and Health Professions. He said, “With the international experts, the School meets Cameroon's unique needs as well as international standards.”
