Drexel Unveils LED Mural: Evolving Face of Nursing

September 1, 2011

Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions is well known for being an innovator in educating students; a mural they co-commission should be no different!

Touted as a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork created by the renowned muralist, Meg Saligman, The Evolving Face of Nursing recently replaced A Tribute to Nursing at the intersection of Broad and Vine Streets.

Tens of thousands of people will now experience a living and changing – evolving – mural as one image by day, and a different one by night under the glow of LED lights. The 6,500 square foot mural incorporates imagery, portraits of real nurses and students as well as medical icons. And passersby are treated to an LED light show at night when the mural is transformed into an animated dreamscape.

The mural, a tribute to the nursing profession, honors the role they play in the healthcare of individuals with a compassion driven by hope and healing. Leading nurses from the area are paid tribute to in portrait on this mural.

If you go, Drexel CNHP students and alumni featured in this monumental rendering are: Deepali Mathur ‘09, RN-BSN, right hand panel, bottom right; Rita Adeniran ‘11, DrNP, right hand niche, bottom left; and Samantha Krugle ‘12, BSN co-op, right hand niche, top right.
