Dean Gloria Ferraro Donnelly Is Honored With The Philadelphia Pinnacle Award

Presented by The Millay Club, The Philadelphia Pinnacle Award recognizes individuals who have reached the highest levels of career achievement and public service.

The Millay Club is the 25,000-member strong alumni association of Southeast Catholic, Bishop Neumann and St. John Neumann high School. Its mission is to advance and support the schools’ alumni members and students and enhance catholic education.

A native of Philadelphia, Gloria Donnelly, PhD, dean of Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, has held faculty appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing, Trenton State College in New Jersey and Villanova University. She was the founding Dean of Nursing at La Salle University. The author of four textbooks, winner of two AJN Book of the Year awards, and currently editor of Holistic Nursing Practice, a refereed journal, Donnelly speaks at the national level on nursing education and a variety of mental health topics including assertiveness, stress and change. In 1982, she was elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing. In 2003, she was named by the March of Dimes as a “Woman of Achievement” and in 2009 The Philadelphia Business Journal named her to their “Women of Distinction.” Most recently, in 2011, she joined the ranks of prominent physicians as Benjamin Rush, John Redman, Sir William Osler, and S. Weir Mitchell when she signed the Fellowship Register as an inductee into the Fellowship of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Donnelly has served on the board of directors of Hahnemann University Hospital, since 2007 and the advisory board to the Nurses Services Organization, a professional liability company, since 2001.

Donnelly is a graduate of Villanova University, the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and Bryn Mawr College, where she completed her PhD in 1985 as a National Service Research Pre-doctoral Fellow.

Her interest in psychiatric-mental health nursing led her to hold clinical and educational positions at Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Hospital and the Institute of the Pennsylvania Hospital.
