Bobbie Posmontier, PhD, has had over 25 years experience working with women and their families in healthcare as nurse midwife and advanced practice psychiatric nurse.

Posmontier's experience includes working for hospital clinics, running her own private home birth and hospital birth practice, and providing mental health services for patients with psychiatric illness across the lifespan.

Research Interests:

Posmontier is currently exploring the neurobiological underpinnings of perinatal mood disorders and impaired mother-infant interaction by using functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to measure cortical hemodynamic response (CHR) differences between infants of mothers with and without postpartum depression (PPD), and exploring the relationship of CHR to the quality of mother-infant interaction. In addition, Posmontier is evaluating outcomes of evidenced-based perinatal mental health interventions administered to mothers with psychiatric symptoms at the Mother Baby Connections Program, which she founded at the College of Nursing and Health Professions. In 2014, she completed an R-21 funded by the National Institute of Mental Health in which she evaluated the efficacy of Interpersonal Psychotherapy provided by midwives via telephone to women with PPD. As a doctoral student, she investigated sleep quality and functional status among women with PPD using actigraphy.

Academic Distinctions:

Posmontier was a Sigma Theta Tau Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy Fellow in 2011, inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2018 and received the Gloria Donnelly Mentorship Award in 2019.

Professional Society:

Posmontier is an active member of the International Society of Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Marcé Society, Association of Women's Health and Neonatal Nurses and served as Foundation President of the International Society of Psychiatric Nurses. She is also an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, American College of Nurse Midwives and Sigma Theta Tau International.
