ATLS Training

For almost 38 years, Drexel’s Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program has offered ATLS provider, renewal and instructor courses under the direction of the ACS (American College of Surgeons). During this time, our ATLS Training Center has educated physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners and continues to certify local, national and international students. We are authorized by the American College of Surgeons to teach Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) to physicians who treat injured patients in an acute care setting. ATLS offers an organized approach to evaluation and care of seriously injured patients, and unites the trauma team with a common foundational knowledge. It is applicable to both larger urban hospitals and smaller rural ones. Learn more about the ATLS program from the American College of Surgeons website, or visit our course catalog to see when ATLS training is available.

ATCN Training

The Department of Emergency Medical Services offers Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN). ATCN, an advanced course for the registered nurse that was created by the Society of Trauma Nurses, is designed to be offered concurrently with the ATLS course to create a setting of interprofessional education while expanding the provider’s knowledge in management of the multiple trauma patient. The ATCN program has been operational for over 15 years and has offered superb trauma education while maintaining a positive collaboration with the state chapters of the ACS Committee on Trauma. Not only is the course offered in the United States, but it is taught internationally as well. We are authorized by the Society of Trauma Nurses to teach Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) to nurses who care for the injured and assist the trauma physicians who treat injured patients in acute care settings. ATCN is an advanced course designed for registered nurses interested in increasing their knowledge in management of the multiple trauma patient.

The ATCN course is taught concurrently with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Advanced Trauma Life Support course. ATCN nurse educators facilitate portions of the ATCN class to nursing staff, promoting interdisciplinary practices and teamwork.
