Admissions Requirements for Professional Development Programs

All applicants should follow the requirements below and read the information carefully. All graduate level programs have computer requirements and skills prerequisites.

All Programs

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Applied Data Science

  • Graduate application - FREE when submitted online
  • A four-year bachelor's degree in any major from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or an equivalent international institution.
  • 3.0 GPA in a prior completed degree, BA/BS and above.
    • Provisional Admission is not available with this program.
  • Official final transcripts including a bachelor's degree conferred from a regionally accredited institution and/or World Education Services (WES) Course-by-Course Evaluation of foreign transcripts
  • One (1) letter of recommendation required, two (2) suggested (academic, professional, or both)
  • Essay/Statement of Purpose: in approximately 500 words, describe what professional goals you hope to achieve, how an advanced degree facilitates that success and anything else you want the Admissions Review Board to know about you.
  • Current Resume

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Computational Data Science

  • Graduate application - FREE when submitted online
  • A four-year bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or STEM field with coursework that includes (1) at least two terms of programming in a high-level language (e.g., Java, Python, C++), and (2) a rigorous mathematical background including calculus and linear algebra.
  • 3.0 GPA in a prior completed degree, BA/BS and above.
    • Provisional Admission is not available with this program.
  • Official final transcripts including a bachelor's degree conferred from a regionally accredited institution and/or World Education Services (WES) Course-by-Course Evaluation of foreign transcripts
  • One (1) letter of recommendation required, two (2) suggested (academic, professional, or both)

Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Human-Computer Interaction and UX

Advanced Certificate in Information Studies and Technology (ACIST)

  • Graduate application - FREE when submitted online
  • A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in areas such as library science, computer or information science, information systems, instructional technology, software engineering, or other appropriate degrees from a suitable regionally accredited program that has prepared them for advanced study in the chosen area for specialization
  • Official final transcripts including a bachelor's degree conferred from a regionally accredited institution and/or World Education Services (WES) Course-by-Course Evaluation of foreign transcripts
  • Essay/Statement of Purpose (approximately 500 words)
  • Current Resume

Post Master's Study for Alumni

Individuals who already hold a master’s degree from Drexel University in Information Systems, Software Engineering (IST Track), Health Informatics, or Library and Information Science may take selected courses for graduate credit by contacting their advisor.

Special Associate Study

Applications for Special Associate students are accepted every quarter. Admissions requirements include: completed graduate application form and a letter from your graduate advisor or department head indicating which classes you have permission to take and that you are in good academic standing.

You will be responsible for obtaining a Drexel transcript upon completion of the CCI class. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Arrange a meeting with your advisor or department head to see if our curriculum can be a match.
  2. Fill out the application
    • Fill out the Drexel graduate application and select Part time (PT). The special associate program (below) will not be available if FT is selected.
    • Apply for Special Associate by selecting IST Special Associate from Program pull down menu (NONMAT-G-IST).
  3. Please provide us with a letter from your advisor or department head at your school that says:
    • You are cleared to take our class (and note which class it is)
    • The class will count towards your degree
    • You are in good academic standing
    • You meet pre-requisites
      • If you desire to take a course that requires a prerequisite you must complete a Prerequisite Waiver Request form (please contact your advisor) and also provide the verification to justify the waiver request
    • You will be responsible for ordering transcripts from Drexel University

All International Applicants to Professional Development Programs

International students must meet the above requirements in addition to the following:

  1. Student has completed a degree from a US institution will have the language test waived
  2. TOEFL: scores older than 2 years will not be accepted and students must obtain a 600 on the written exam or a 90 on the Internet based exam.
  3. IELTS: scores older than 2 years will not be accepted and students must obtain a 6.5 minimum
  4. PTE: scores older than 2 years will not be accepted and students must obtain a 60 minimum

Note: I-20 form and accompanying bank documents are required for student matriculation.
