Major: BS Information Systems (Minor: Technology Innovation Management)

Year: Pre-Junior

Hometown: Born in Poland; grew up in Somerset, NJ

I chose this major because... I wasn't really sure about what I wanted to major in right out of high school so I went into computer science because I was pretty sure I wanted to do something involving computers and technology. However, I didn't really love the coding part of computer science, so I talked to some of my professors freshman year and ended up changing my major to information systems. Now I feel more confident about having this major because it's giving me the opportunity to get exposure to both the business side and technical side of technology. I am also thinking of going back and continuing with computer science as a second minor.

Favorite Course: CI 101-103 Freshman Design Sequence was definitely my favorite so far. We worked in groups so we were all learning off of each other and working together which was great and really gave us an idea of what happens when a new website, game, app, etc. is made. We got to go through the whole process from coming up with an idea, to creating it, and then presenting and giving a demo to our classmates and professors.

Clubs/Extracurricular Activities: Alpha Omega Epsilon STEM Sorority, Drexel Newman Catholic Community

Co-ops I've done:

  • Service Business Analyst, Johnson & Johnson, Raritan, NJ (current co-op)

Favorite thing/place at Drexel: Rush garden, the area outside of the main building (food trucks, tables/chairs), and the quad. It's great to do homework, have lunch, or even just hangout outside and get a break from the city and being inside for class.

When I'm not at Drexel, I'm... cooking/baking, watching something on Netflix, checking out restaurants and just exploring Center City, hanging out with friends, going to NYC for weekends, or going home to see my friends/family and dogs.

When you are in Philadelphia, I think you should... definitely go out and find something to do in Center City, there are so many things to do and places to visit so you'll be able to find something you enjoy whether it's a museum, park, restaurant, etc. I recently went to the Magic Gardens and it was so pretty and led to amazing pictures.

Advice to new/incoming CCI students: If you are questioning if you chose the right major or even thinking about switching, talk to your advisor or professor because they will definitely be helpful and they want to help you find where you belong. They will be able to give you more details about the different majors and tell you who else you can reach out to get more information. Also, don't just focus on school, yes school and grades are important, but they are not the only thing that is going to help you succeed at Drexel. Find your place and your people on campus where you feel like you belong. This is going to be super helpful when you are feeling stressed out by all the classes you're taking and the fast pace of Drexel.

What is your dream job? Not really sure yet, hoping to have a better idea of this after my co-op.

Hey, I'm Paulina. I'm an Information Systems major minoring in Technology Innovation Management and possibly also minoring in Computer Science. Love going out and exploring the city and finding new restaurants to get good food at. Feel free to reach out to me and we can talk and get food or coffee.

I am currently a third year in Computer Science pursuing two tracks (Artificial Intelligence & Human Computer Interaction) and two minors (Management Information Systems & Finance). I was born in a tropical island called Sri Lanka and came to America when I was 3 years old. I chose Drexel because I fell in love with the campus, city life and endless opportunities. I'm currently trying to figure out how to involve technology, business and design into my future job.
