Major: BS Computer Science (Minors: Mathematics and Data Science; CS Tracks: Software & Security and Numeric Symbolic Computation)
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
I chose this major because... Computer science just seemed so new and exciting to jump into. I didn’t have much experience coming into the program, but I found myself really enjoying the coding and problem-solving aspect of the major. There couldn’t be a better time to join the tech industry and I want to continue to build new products that will impact people’s lives!
Favorite Course(s): CS 350 Software Design: This was one of the hardest CS classes I’ve taken thus far but I thought it was also one of the most interesting and eye-opening to the computing field. You learn a variety of ways that you can write your code and how to choose which one is the better option. It really makes you think of not only how to write your code to work, but how to write your code well so it can be sustainable and easily understood by others.
Clubs/Extracurricular Activities: Women in Computing Society (WiCS), Alpha Omega Epsilon (STEM Sorority), Undergraduate Research Leaders (URLs)
Co-ops I've done:
- I’ve done my last two co-ops and will be doing my third and final one at Susquehanna International Group (SIG) in Bala Cynwyd, PA! It’s really the kind of company that you want to go back to (free food, company events, casual dress). During my time at SIG, I’ve created a variety of financial-based applications to assist traders and operation analysts with their day-to-day work.
Favorite thing/place at Drexel: The Food trucks! I love halal food (the one by the Mario statue) and it’s definitely my comfort food when I’m studying for midterms/finals or just really hungry and need good quality, cheap food.
When I'm not at Drexel, I'm... Back home in North Wales, PA (~45 minute train ride) with friends and family
When you are in Philadelphia, I think you should... Check out Cira Green! It’s a rooftop garden right on top of the apartment complex Evo and has some gorgeous views of the city. It’s nice to go there to just clear your mind and maybe grab a burger at the restaurant on top of it!
Advice to new/incoming CCI students: Don’t be intimidated by anything or anyone, especially in the beginning! Computer science can be challenging at times and it will require you to really manage your time well, but the benefits you reap from it are so rewarding. If you feel like you’re not getting something, reach out to your professor or head over to the CLC and ask one of the TAs for help. That’s what they are there for.
What is your dream job? Software Developer at a well-known tech firm.
Favorite Animated Character: Calvin and Hobbes
I am a fourth year computer science student with minors in math and data science. I grew up relatively close to Philly, but I still have so many places in the city yet to
explore! I’m passionate about the women in computing initiative and have been actively involved with Drexel’s Women in Computing Society (WiCS), where I have served as secretary this past year and will be the treasurer for 2019/2020 school year. Outside of the busy Drexel schedule, you can find me relaxing with a coffee and book or hanging out with friends and family. Feel free to reach out to me!
