Major: BS Data Science
Hometown: Drexel Hill, PA
I chose this major because... it combines two of my strong passions of Statistics and Computer Science. After taking my first Statistics and Computer Science course in high school, I came to the realization that I really enjoy the process of problem-solving while applying my critical thinking skills. Data Science is also in high demand of women, as women are still underrepresented in this field, and I would love to make a difference for women in technology.
Favorite Course: CI 102 & CI 103 Computing and Informatics Design I and II – I loved this course sequence because I was able to gain hands-on experience collaborating with a team to create a Web Application. I was able to learn new programming languages, software, and tools while working in a team-oriented environment. Overall, I truly value my experiences within these courses as it will be extremely useful in the professional work field.
Clubs/Extracurricular Activities: Pennoni Honors College, Women in Computing Society, Society of Asian Scientists & Engineers, Community Student Association
Co-ops I've done: I am currently working as a Software Developer at Vanguard for the Fall/Winter 2020-2021 as my first co-op.
Favorite thing/place at Drexel: Drexel CCI Building – Whether I am going to class, studying in the lobby area, getting help from a TA in the CLC, or just eating lunch with friends in the couch area, I find myself spending most of my day in the new CCI Building. It’s so spacious!
When I'm not at Drexel, I'm... out shopping, bowling, or playing video games at home.
When you are in Philadelphia, I think you should... visit Cira Green. It is a great place to hang out with friends, do homework, eat lunch, and observe the beautiful city skyline. Just a nice place to kick back and relax!
Advice to new/incoming CCI students: Always keep an open mind when trying new things and meeting new people on campus. Coming into my Freshman year at Drexel, I felt overwhelmed by the number of students and diverse organizations provided on campus. I quickly learned that I must be open-minded to make the most out of my first year by trying to do things out of my comfort zone. Being willing to try new and unfamiliar things will help you discover what you truly enjoy on campus. Whether it be joining a student organization, participating in community service, or playing a sport, there are so many opportunities to explore your interests while also meeting like-minded people in the process.
What is your dream job? Becoming a Data Analyst or Software Engineer for a large prestigious corporation.
Hi, my name is Justina. I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. I am a second-year student in the 5-year co-op program majoring in Data Science. Some of my favorite hobbies are shopping, bowling, traveling, playing video games, and hanging out with my friends and family. I also really enjoy going out and exploring the city, especially the abundance of restaurants to choose from! If you enjoy the city and like to eat, come join me!
