Major: BS Information Systems (Minor: Security Technology)
Hometown: North Brunswick, NJ
I chose this major because…: I enjoyed creating projects with code and seeing how it was implemented. I knew I enjoyed coding but preferred seeing the outcomes to all my projects, and in CS that was not always accomplished. In IS I am able to code and see the outcomes, as well as incorporate my code and apply it to databases and implement data which is really interesting.
Favorite course(s): Applied Data Management (INFO 153) helped peak my interest into working with databases and implementing code within them. Database Management Systems (INFO 210) further explored my interest in databases, and allowed me to work with Oracle and create SQL commands to implement data.
Clubs/Extracurricular Activities: Drexel Women in Computing Society (WiCS)
Co-ops I’ve done: Development and Integration, PJM Interconnection, Norristown, PA
Favorite thing/place at Drexel: Rush Gardens, Cira Green & Promenade and Gazebo by the Philadelphia Art Museum – such a great area to sit and look out at Schuylkill River, houses on the row and the skyline.
When I’m not at Drexel, I’m…: exploring around the city, spending time with friends and family back home or volunteering at Philadelphia’s SPCA.
When you are in Philadelphia, I think you should…: explore around the city, there is so much to see and do!
Advice to new/incoming CCI students: Don’t be afraid of change. Coming into a new state, city, or school, is an adjustment but come in with an open mind. Not everything will go your way and your original plan may not work out the way you want. Instead, be open to new opportunities and explore different possibilities presented to you; take risks and make mistakes. As Lisa Kleyps said: “You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you.”
What is your dream job? I would love to work at companies like JP Morgan, Bloomberg or Morgan Stanley as a Database Administrator, DevOps Engineer or any similar areas.
Favorite animated character: Matilda
I’m a third year student majoring in Information Systems with a minor in Security Technology. I came to Drexel with the thought of majoring in Computer Science but found out it wasn’t the track I wanted to go through. I ended up switching to Information Systems and found what I was passionate at and ended up declaring Security Technology as my minor. With this minor I was able to focus on the coursework I enjoyed taking and allows me to gain different aspects of data collection and coding. I am happy I made the change as it positively impacted my life and time here at Drexel. If you are ever questioning your major, or considering switching, or considering adding a minor; please feel free to contact me, as I am someone who has gone through it and can help you out!
