Design at Drexel
Craft, Research, Impact
Drexel University’s graduate design programs train makers, researchers, and leaders who blend craft, technology, and evidence-based practice within Philadelphia’s vibrant design ecosystem.
Each program centers on studio practice, research, and industry engagement while offering educational opportunities in design research, human centered design, sustainable practices, digital fabrication and advanced design technologies.
Students have the opportunity to work with Westphal’s fabrication equipment and conduct hands-on research. Renowned faculty will lead projects that connect expertise, innovation, and social impact so graduates leave portfolio-ready and career-ready for roles in product and service design, architecture, fashion houses, technical development, and applied research.
Our Design Programs
The MS in Design, a STEM designated program, trains interdisciplinary designers to solve real-world problems through research-driven studio practice and collaboration across service, product, and social-impact design. The two-year, 48-credit program teaches design research, evidence-based methods, service and product strategy, and user-centered prototyping. Students complete a self-directed curriculum including a three-term thesis sequence, and graduate prepared for roles in service design, product strategy, creative direction, and design analysis.
Drexel’s MS in Fashion Design trains creative makers to design for today’s world through hands-on studio work, industry internships, and access to advanced textile and fabrication labs in Philadelphia. The three-year program blends traditional garment craft with digital tools and research, teaching patternmaking, tailoring, CAD, fashion history, and digital fabrication while emphasizing sustainable, inclusive design. Students develop collections, build portfolios, and graduate ready for fashion-related careers in design, development, costume, retail, education and research.
Drexel’s MS in Interior Architecture & Design is a studio-forward graduate program that trains designers to solve real problems in ethical, sustainable, and market-driven ways across residential, commercial, and public spaces. No prior design background or experience is required for this program. For applicants with a relevant undergraduate degree, the accelerated MS in Interior Architecture (MSIA) curriculum is highly interdisciplinary and customizable. This STEM designated program is a post-professional degree for students with backgrounds in interior design and architecture.
