University Department Mail Service
Drexel Mail Service, operated by The MCS Group, Inc. (MCS), provides United States Postal Service (USPS) mail delivery service to Drexel University Departments.
Incoming and Outgoing Department Mail Pickup and Distribution
Drexel Mail Service provides the following services for departments:
- University City Campus (incoming and outgoing USPS mail pickup and distribution, on-site bulk and metered mail service)
- Center City Campus (incoming and outgoing USPS mail pickup and distribution)
- Queen Lane Campus (inter-office USPS mail pickup and distribution)
- The Academy of Natural Science of Drexel University (inter-office USPS mail pickup and distribution)
Drexel Mail Service picks up mail from USPS on Monday – Friday, excluding University holidays and administrative breaks. This mail, along with University inter-office mail, is then sorted for delivery. Outgoing mail from a department is picked up when the daily mail is delivered. In addition, on the University City Campus, USPS outgoing mail may be brought to the Drexel Mail Service office (General Services Building at 3300 Market Street), 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. A Mail Work Order Form [PDF] must be completed to drop-off mail in-person.
If you have mail that needs to be sent the same day, it needs to be ready at the time of your daily pick-up or you must drop off at the Drexel Mail Service office (General Services Building at 3300 Market Street) by 3 p.m. Outgoing mail received after 3 p.m. will be processed and delivered to USPS on the following business day.
Drexel departments must work directly with a print supplier for bulk mail projects. More information on placing these orders via Smart Source is available on the Procurement Services website.
Nonprofit Mailing, Permit Use (Permit 144)
Drexel University holds a nonprofit mailing permit (Permit 144) with USPS. Drexel departments must work directly with a print supplier to use Permit 144. To use the permit, your selected print supplier must email email@example.com at least 10 business days prior to the anticipated mailing date with a postage statement estimate.
After the request is reviewed and approved, the supplier will be notified by Drexel Mail Service that the items may be dropped at the Post Office and your department will be charged for the postage via the service department charge process.
For more information on placing orders via Smart Source, visit the Procurement Services website.
For more information or assistance with your mailing project, contact Drexel Mail Service.
Drexel Mail Service will pick up outgoing mail to be metered when it is accompanied by a Mail Work Order Form [PDF]and it does not exceed 200 pieces.
If your project exceeds 200 pieces, or if you need assistance with your mailing project, contact Drexel Mail Service.
Certified Mail is a special service provided by USPS that provides the customer with confirmation that the item has been mailed. Upon delivery, the mail carrier obtains a signature from the recipient. That signature is stored in the USPS database for a period of 2 years.
Drexel departments may add a Return Receipt service to a Certified Mail piece. The Return Receipt must be attached to the certified mail piece at the time of mailing. The Return Receipt will be sent back to the sender showing the recipient's signature to provide proof the mailing was received, or that a delivery attempt was made. USPS will attempt delivery with signature for a period of approximately 15 days before returning the undelivered/unaccepted letter back to the sender.
Drexel Mail Service will pick up outgoing certified mail during regularly scheduled mail runs. If you require Certified Mail service after a scheduled pick-up, you may drop off at the Drexel Mail Service office (General Services Building at 3300 Market Street) by 3 p.m.
Certified mail received after 3 p.m. will be processed and delivered to USPS on the following business day.
