Spain Partnerships

We currently have two teams of cooperation in institutions in the cities of Seville and Toledo, Spain.

Seville

Research collaboration based, led at Drexel's School of Biomed by Dr. Kambiz Pourrezaei, Dr. Kurtulus Izzetoglu, and in Seville by Professor Jose Carrion and his anesthesiology team. Joint publications are currently in three journals, with a joint grant Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research (TATRC) project. Trips between Philadelphia and Spain will take place to collect data in the operating room and on some types of surgery (e.g., colon related). Work will take place at the hospitals and at the Center for systems to be set up and for control subject tests.

Toledo

Research collaboration based, with the group of Neurosignals – Bioengineering and Experimental Neurophysiology of Dr. Gugliemo Foffani and Dr. Juan Aguilar at the National Hospital of Paraplegics for Research and Integration in Toledo.

Hospital Nacional de Paraplejicos

Collaboration also exists with the Functional Stimulation group of Dr. Oliviero, Head of the Neurology Department at the National Hospital of Paraplegics. In this project, part of an international exchange program, functional near infrared (fNIR) imaging was used to monitor the local neurophysiology changes induced by transcranial direct current stimulation (tCDS). The study resulted in a joint publication in a prestigious neuroimaging journal" "Prefrontal hemodynamic changes produced by anodal direct stimulation" in Neuroimage, 2010, 49(3): 2304-2310 (A.C. Merzagora, G. Foffani, I. Panyavin, L. Mordillo-mateos, J. Aguilar, B. Onaral, and A. Oliviero).
