Applied Behavior Analysis is considered best practice for interventions for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our group provides a wide range of resources in autism intervention with a particular focus on coaching and consultation to community providers that enables and facilitates intervention adoption and adaptation to meet provider and individual needs.

This training provides a description of the essential features of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including the persistent impairment of social communication and social interaction (Criterion A) and restrictive, repetitive patterns of behavior or activities (Criterion B). Participants will become familiar with the presentation of the broad spectrum of ASD across the lifespan.
This training reviews the literature of Evidence-Based Practices in educational settings, including academic and behavioral interventions within a multi-tiered system. The training also discusses the practical application of established and emerging practices in education.
During this training, participants will learn the conditions under which challenging behavior is most likely to occur and how the environment maintains behavior. Participants will learn how to conduct a thorough Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) to identify the cause of challenging behavior. The training will inform participants about basic ABA concepts and the varying approaches to completing an FBA.
This training is designed to help participants identify appropriate function-based interventions based on the results of a Functional Behavioral Assessment. Participants will be become familiar with a wide range of strategies that can be effective for a variety of students. This training is best when it follows the Designing and Implementing Behavior Support Plans.
In this training, participants will learn how to design and implement an effective Behavior Support Plan. The training will include instructions on how to gather all of the necessary information for the plan, train staff on intervention and data collection procedures, monitor progress and implementation fidelity, and ensure that the interventions are portable.
During this training, participants will learn to use the Social Skills Improvement System Rating Scales to screen and classify students suspected of having significant social skills deficits. In addition, participants will be exposed to the evidence supporting this rating scale, as well as other social skill assessments.
This training is designed to help participants identify appropriate social skill interventions based on the results of the Social Skills Improvement System Rating Scale. Participants will also learn about alternative evidence-based strategies to teach a wide range of social skills
We offer multiple sensitivity trainings designed for students, staff, and administration. During individual or school-wide presentations, students and faculty will become familiar with the components of autism including: social impairment, communication deficits, sensory sensitivity and behaviors that may be difficult to manage. Participants will learn effective strategies to support individuals with autism.
Through this training, participants will learn how to effectively promote academic, behavioral and social achievement. This training teaches staff techniques to use when implementing support plans, and focuses on the importance of data collection and treatment fidelity.
This training will provide the knowledge and skills required for effective supervision for those who are pursuing their BCBA certification and/or newly certified. During the training, participants will have opportunities to demonstrate both verbal and practical competence. The training program is based on the BACB Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline but is offered independent of the BACB.
The training will provide an overview of the most user-friendly technologies available for managing data—including websites, software, and iPad apps—and an introduction to a few that are most relevant for participants. The goal of this training is to help participants identify technology that fits their needs, and learn how to incorporate technology into their daily routine.
Program evaluation can assist with the identification of the core goals and values of an organization and subsequently assess the fidelity with which these goals or values are obtained toward the goal of furthering its growth and development. Our program evaluators work closely with staff to develop an evaluation process, which can include various phases for the key components of data collection, data synthesis and analysis, and the integration of information and recommendations. Evaluators and staff work together to identify the most appropriate methods for collecting data, such as Focus Groups, Record Reviews, Formal/Informal Direct Observations, Surveys, and/or Interviews, as well as consider the inclusion of comprehensive recommendations based upon best practice and evidence based intervention.
Comprehensive Bilingual Evaluations (English/Spanish) can provide school teams or agencies with important information across a variety of areas, specifically for individuals who come from bilingual environments, who are bilingual themselves (Spanish/English), or who are monolingual Spanish speakers. Areas of evaluation can include cognitive functioning, academic skills, adaptive behavior, social/emotional behavior, general language skills, and behaviors associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Reports can include the identification of areas of relative strength and need as well as general recommendations for programming within the school or community setting.
School psychologists from the Clinical Core of the Autism Institute are available to conduct full, independent psycho-educational evaluations that can provide a comprehensive assessment of cognitive abilities and academic levels. Along with an analysis of strengths and challenges, our clinicians will provide a complete, integrated report consisting of clear explanations and thorough recommendations that can be helpful in creating a plan for developing appropriate learning strategies.
Clinical Consultation and Intervention
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and experimental functional analyses (FA) can determine the maintaining variables of undesirable behavior in educational settings. The FBA utilizes direct observations of the behavior and environmental events, while the FA employs direct changes to those possible variables during assessment. Assessment results can be used to develop function-based, individualized treatment plans which include guidance for staff training and progress monitoring.
Training of staff in implementation of Positive Behavior Support Intervention at the school-wide level, classroom management level and individual student basis. Support can include training in assessments of positive behavior support implementation in the building, selecting behavior monitoring systems, and training support staff.
Through the use of the Social Skills Improvement System Rating Scale and direct observation, the clinical core will provide assessment of students suspected of having significant social skills deficits. Once students have been observed, screened and classified, individualized treatment plans will be designed for the students suspected of having significant social skills deficits. Progress will be monitored through direct observation and follow-up rating scales.
The Clinical Core can provide assessment and treatment of food selectivity and food refusal using behavior analytic interventions. Individualized treatment plans for feeding problems are based upon functional analysis of the problem behavior. Treatment plans include training of primary caregiver on site, as wells as maintenance plans to transition treatment plans to the home.
Using the strategies, philosophies, and technology of Behavioral Consultation, our consultants can expertly guide an organization through the necessary steps of systems of change, including: identification of problems, analysis of the problem through collection of data, development of a plan of action, implementation of an intervention plan, and evaluation of the intervention. By working directly and personally with the administrators and members of an organization, our consultants can create a strategy that will enable the organization to reach its full potential. Implementing these strategies with the support of the consulting team ensures that effective change is appropriately implemented and ultimately sustained.
