Alumni Impact Endowed Scholarship

HUNDREDS OF DRAGONS HAVE COME TOGETHER TO HELP CIVIC-MINDED STUDENTS, LIKE CONNOR, ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.

Thanks to hundreds of generous donations from alumni and members of the Drexel community, more than $180,000 has been raised to support the Alumni Impact Scholarship. When it hits $200,000, the Alumni Board of Governors will make a contribution of $50,000, which will enable us to support even more students in the future.

Recently, we caught up with the Impact Scholarship’s inaugural recipient, Connor Pladeck-Morgado ’20. Connor shares how he’s staying busy these days and what his plans are for after graduation.

We hear you’re on co-op right now. Can you talk a little bit about what you’re learning?

I am currently on co-op with Clemens Construction Company, working on one of their job sites in north Philadelphia. I’m a project engineer on a job we’re doing to build a new high school for Cristo Rey. During my time here I’ve learned a lot about construction financing, job accounting, estimating and project submittals. I enjoy working for a general contractor like Clemens because the company has a lot of experienced employees willing to work with and teach young professionals like myself. During my time here at Clemens they have made me feel like an integral team member.

You’re graduating next year. What are your plans?

After Drexel, my plans are to take off for a month or two during the summer and travel. I am also looking into going back to school for my pilot’s license; I have always had a strong passion for aviation but never felt like it was the right time for me to take the next step in pursuing that lifelong dream.

Are you still finding time for any volunteer work?

Yup, I’m still doing some volunteering, most recently cooking dinners for residents at the Ronald McDonald house in Camden. I think the Ronald McDonald house is probably my favorite place to volunteer because I like knowing that I’m helping to relieve some of the stress the residents are feeling just by doing something as small as making dinner for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do endowed scholarships really matter?

Yes! More than you may realize. By giving to an endowed scholarship, you are not making a one-time gift — you're making a lasting investment.

Once it's fully funded, the Alumni Impact Endowed Scholarship will provide multiple scholarships for students, year after year, forever. This means that every gift — no matter what the size — will make a difference for generations of Drexel students, easing their financial burden and helping them graduate.

Who am I helping with my gift?

The Alumni Impact Scholarship will go to students who, though they face great need, still find time to help others.

Eligible students will:

  • Have demonstrated financial need
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Be civic-minded, going above and beyond to help their communities in a meaningful way
