Classes of 1969: Celebrate Your 50-Year Reunion at Alumni Weekend 2019!

As members of the Golden Dragon Classes of 1969, you are the guests of honor at this year's Alumni Weekend as we celebrate your 50-year Reunion. The schedule is packed with events on campus and throughout the city for you to enjoy.  

 

Whether your student memories are from Drexel, Hahnemann or Woman's Medical College, join us for the weekend and reconnect with classmates, reminisce about the past and experience the energy and excitement of Drexel today.

Drexel Class of 1969 reunion activities happen on Friday, May 17. The cost of the reunion package is $65 for alumni and guests, and includes all events listed below. We encourage you to stick around all weekend and check out the full schedule of events.

FRIDAY, MAY 17


Class of 1969 Check-In


Time: 9 to 11 a.m.
Location: Paul Peck Alumni Center, 3142 Market Street

Kick off your reunion at the Paul Peck Alumni Center. As you check in, make sure to get your complimentary Memory Book and visit the University Archives display. Enjoy a cup of coffee and a light continental breakfast while you’re there!

Drexel at 125: A Presentation of Drexel History with Scott Knowles


Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Location: Main Building, A.J. Drexel Picture Gallery, 3141 Chestnut Street

Travel through time with a lecture about Drexel’s fascinating history from Scott Knowles, PhD, department head and professor of the Department of History, and co-editor of “Building Drexel: The University and Its City, 1891 – 2016,” which chronicles Drexel’s first 125 years. Knowles’ talk will focus especially on University life during the 1960’s, when you and your classmates were students.

Class of 1969 Photo


Time: 11:15 a.m.
Location: Main Building, Great Court, 3141 Chestnut Street

Gather for a group photograph on the iconic Main Building staircase. A copy of the photo will be mailed to you after Alumni Weekend. Nursing alumnae graduates will have their own photo taken, in addition to the class photo.

Golden Dragon Society and 50-Year Reunion Luncheon


Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Location: Creese Student Center, Behrakis Grand Hall, 3210 Chestnut Street

Catch up on many years gone by over lunch featuring festive beverages and food stations. This event is exclusively for members of the Golden Dragon Society from the Classes of 1969 and prior.

University City Campus Bus Tour


Time: 2 to 4 p.m.
Location: TBA
Cost: Free

Take a leisurely ride as students narrate the sights and sounds of University City campus. Discover all that has changed and see what has remained the same! A shuttle will depart every 30 minutes for student-led tours of the University City campus.

URBN Center and Gallery Tour


Time: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: URBN Center, 3501 Market Street

Visit the home of the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design and see the state-of-the-art spaces -- like a recording studio, a video game design lab, a fabric dying and print studio, and a fashion research lab -- where students learn, innovate and create.  

Materials for Electronic Smart Systems (MESS) Lab Tour


Time: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: 3101 Market Street

The Materials for Electronic Smart Systems (MESS) facility represents an inter-disciplinary collaboration among faculty with diverse research interests including wireless communications, optics, robotics, entertainment engineering, functional fabrics and the Internet of Things. Attendees will hear from faculty and students who are engaged in these exciting projects.

LeBow College of Business Tour


Time: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Location: Gerri C. LeBow Hall, 3220 Market Street

Head over to the home of the LeBow College of Business, located at the heart of Drexel’s University City campus, for refreshments and a tour. Guests will be joined by LeBow College Dean, Paul E. Jensen.

Golden Dragon Society Cocktail Reception


Time: 6 to 9 p.m. 
Location: The Logan Hotel, 1 Logan Square

Have some Friday night fun with your fellow Golden Dragons! The evening features dancing to the greatest hits of the ’60s, dinner stations and drinks including classic cocktails. The Golden Dragon Society Awards will also be presented.

College of Medicine Classes of 1969 reunion activities happen on Thursday and Friday, May 16 and 17. We encourage you to stick around all weekend and check out the full schedule of events.

THURSDAY, MAY 16


Welcome Reception for the Classes of 1969


Time: 4 to 6 p.m.
Location: Pyramid Club, 1735 Market Street
Cost: $30 per person

The Classes of 1969 are invited to a kick off to Alumni Weekend and their 50-Year Reunion. Cost includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, open bar (beer and wine) and class photos.

FRIDAY, MAY 17


College of Medicine Commencement


Time: 7:45 to 11 a.m.
Location: Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 South Broad Street
Cost: Free

As members of the Hahnemann University and Woman’s Medical College Classes of 1969, you are invited as special guests to attend this year’s College of Medicine Commencement. Breakfast and regalia are provided. Additional event details will be emailed to you in May.

50-Year Tour of the Archives


Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Location: Pickup/Dropoff: Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, 300 South Broad Street
Cost: $15

The Legacy Center is a repository for the records and heritage of Woman's Medical College, Medical College of Pennsylvania, Hahnemann University and the Drexel University College of Medicine. During this tour, the archivist will show you how these valuable records are stored. A light lunch will be provided before the tour.

Golden Dragon Society and Grand Classes Presentation


Date: Friday, May 17
Time: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Location: Hotel Palomar, 117 South 17th Street
Cost: $25 per person

The Classes of 1969 will join Golden Dragon Society members from previous years and will be inducted into the Society by Daniel V. Schidlow, MD, Annenberg Dean and senior vice president, Medical Affairs. Enjoy champagne and appetizers with friends old and new before heading upstairs to the College of Medicine All Alumni Celebration.

All Alumni Celebration


Date: Friday, May 17
Time: 7 to 9 p.m.
Location: Hotel Palomar, 117 South 17th Street

This celebration featuring great city views and live music is open to all College of Medicine alumni. Mingle and catch up with classmates as you enjoy heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks including a signature Alumni Weekend cocktail.

SATURDAY, MAY 18


Saturday Morning at the Mütter: Alumni Brunch and Discussion


Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: College of Physicians, 19 South 22nd Street
Cost: $10 per person

Join Laura Gitlin, PhD, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) and James Buehler, MD, clinical professor at the Dornsife School of Public Health, for the discussion The New Normal: Implications for Higher Education of an Aging World, which is an exploration of the demographic shift, the opportunities it presents and the role of Drexel in preparing a healthcare workforce.

College of Medicine Awards Lunch


Time: 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each year the College of Medicine Alumni Association Board of Directors recognizes outstanding alumni with a series of awards. All alumni and guests are invited to attend as we honor these exemplary alumni over lunch with College of Medicine Dean, Dr. Daniel V. Schidlow.

Couples Reception

Are you a member of a Drexel family? This reception is open to anyone with a family member who also attended Drexel or the College of Medicine (including its legacy schools). Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer with generations of alumni who have experienced the University through the course of its history.

Drexel After Dark


Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. 
Location: Philadelphia Museum of Art, 2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway

This year, Drexel After Dark will be one to remember in the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Great Stair Hall. Celebrate the close of another memorable weekend with live music from crowd-favorite, Strangers, upscale food stations and an open bar that includes a signature cocktail voted on by Drexel alumni. You’ll be some of the first visitors to witness the museum’s transformational renovation by Frank Gehry and will have private access to the galleries. Free parking provided in the museum garage.
