A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute Lab Opening

Kick off Alumni Weekend at the grand opening of Drexel's new $5M laboratory for the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute (DNI). At this event, co-sponsored by the College of Engineering and Drexel Alumni, explore the 7,400-square-foot lab that accomodates more than 50 researchers on a student-led tour and network with alumni, friends and faculty, including Yury Gogotsi, PhD, director of the DNI, and Ekaterina Pomerantseva, PhD, Anne Stevens Assistant Professor, materials science and engineering. Alumni Spirits Tasting

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: The Study at University City, 20 South 33rd Street
Cost: $45 per person

Toast to the good times with friends at this casual event hosted by Amish Desai ’03, vice chair of the Alumni Board of Governors. Olivia Babiec ’15, assistant distiller at Philadelphia Distilling, will lead a tasting of bourbon, rye and scotch made by Pennsylvania distilleries. These spirits will be paired with delicious dishes on the terrace of The Study at University City.

Fashion, Style & Global Culture Conference Alumni Panel and Reception

Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Main Building, A.J. Drexel Picture Gallery, 3141 Chestnut Street

Alumni panelists and experts in the field will speak on fashion, style and culture. Professor Joseph Hancock, PhD, College of Media Arts & Design professor and program director of Retail & Merchandising, will moderate the panel featuring: Kimberlyne Bethea ’12, co-founder and director of sales and sourcing at On Camera Sales and Marketing, Inc.; Anne Cecil ’84, resourceful visionary and professor in the MS in Retail & Merchandising program; Brighid Leyman ’12, director of sales at Signal Brands; Nancy Mair ’92, senior executive, retail merchandising for Burlington Stores, Inc.; and Brielle Sanders ’13, COO and co-founder of Blanco Noir Group LLC.

URBN Center and Gallery Tour

Visit the home of the College of Media Arts & Design and see the state-of-the-art spaces -- like a recording studio, a video game design lab, a fabric dying and print studio, and a fashion research lab -- where students learn, innovate and create.

Materials for Electronic Smart Systems (MESS) Lab Tour

The Materials for Electronic Smart Systems (MESS) facility represents an inter-disciplinary collaboration among faculty with diverse research interests including wireless communications, optics, robotics, entertainment engineering, functional fabrics and the Internet of Things. Attendees will hear from faculty and students who are engaged in these exciting projects.

LeBow College of Business Tour

ROTC Hall of Fame Induction

All alumni are welcome to join us for the ROTC Hall of Fame Ceremony. Induction into the Hall of Fame is awarded to alumni, both military and civilian, whose character and service epitomizes the qualities that the Drexel ROTC embodies.

Raymond G. Perelman Center for Jewish Life Open House

School of Education: Support our Schools

Join the School of Education for an opportunity to give back and meet fellow alumni. Hosted at Wahoo's, located directly across the street from the Main Building at 3180 Chestnut Street, attendees are encouraged to bring school supplies or cleaning products that will be donated to local partnership schools and matched by the Alumni Committee. On this walking tour of some of the most impressive buildings and spaces on campus, get an inside look at how alumni, students and faculty are collaborating, innovating, and building the products and services that are shaping the future, today. Plus, each stop will feature food and drink tastings. 

SOLEcial Studies with Sean Williams

Time: 1 to 3 p.m.

Sneakers are a fashion staple and a top-selling category of the apparel industry. With their strong ties to urban life, it’s a wonder why so many marginalized groups and minorities are left out of the sneaker industry. Sean Williams, Westphal College of Media Arts & Design Rankin Scholar and expert in the area of sneaker culture, will discuss how to get a job in this growing industry including the importance of having a mentor. Williams’ work includes consulting for such brands as Adidas and aiding in the creation of the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibition The Rise of Sneaker Culture.
