The Mummers

The streets of Philadelphia belong to the Mummers each January 1st . That's the date for the Philadelphia Mummers Parade, the longest-running traditional folk parade in the country. But what is a Mummer? And how did this all come about?

According to the average Philadelphian, a mummer is any man, woman or child involved in the fantasy of song, dance and costume splendor on each January 1st in the annual Philadelphia New Year's Day parade. The mummers devote an entire year to crafting their costumes, writing their skits, rehearsing their performances. The Mummers are a series of clubs in the greater Philadelphia area; one of which is the Aqua String Band who will entertain us on Thursday evening at the Pyramid Club during the Assessment Conference. Known for creating innovative and breathtaking costumes and music, Aqua provides an experience long remembered, with memories and merriment shared with your family for generations to come. Come and enjoy!
