Biomedical Engineering Summer Institutes

Biomed Summer Academy

Participants will be introduced to laboratory and core research skills through interactive, hands-on learning activities such as making nanoparticles and measuring brain waves. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the booming biomedical industry through site visits, seminars, and presentations from industry experts.

Dates Session I: July 8–12, 2019; Session II: July 15–19, 2019; Session III: July 22–26, 2019
Residential No

Housing is handled separately with two options being available. Please contact the respective organization for cost and additional details:
  • During any session, students 18 and older or those accompanied by an adult can stay in a Drexel University residence hall. Learn more about Summer Housing.
  • Housing is also available through Julian Krinsky Residential Services for students ages 14 – 18. Learn more about Residential Services.
Cost $1,200, includes lunch as well as all educational and laboratory supplies
Eligibility This STEM summer program in biomedical engineering is available to rising high school juniors and seniors in the Philadelphia area and beyond. Admission to the program is competitive. Students must have taken one year of biology and have some interest in math, engineering, or health and life sciences. Preference is given to students with outstanding GPAs and teacher recommendations.

Need-Based Scholarship Information

Students will be selected to receive the scholarship based on financial need only. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, the following information must be sent at the time of application. No exceptions.

A 200- to 400-word essay, submitted in PDF format explaining why you want to receive the scholarship, why you want to be a part of the Biomed STEM Summer Academy, and why you are a good candidate to receive the award.
Current tax documentation as well as any other applicable information from your parents/guardians that demonstrates financial need.
