DrExcel Health provides students with experiences that bridge the gap between technology and research when entering a clinical medical practice. Participation in DrExcel Health expands students' knowledge of industry fields that influence clinical practice. Students who participate build connections with physicians and experts in a range of disciplines relating to medicine. Additionally, students learn about product development and the skills needed to bring a concept to design and to market.

DrExcel Health Student Group Continues to Innovate Thanks to Collaboration, Health Sciences Building Resources

This spring, multidisciplinary teams of medical and biomedical engineering students from the DrExcel Health student group gathered for the annual Demo Day event (April 30, 2024) to present concepts for innovative medical devices. The event took place at the Health Sciences Building, a work environment that helped the students create devices to address unmet needs in clinical practice. Read more.

DrExcel Health Project Team Looks Toward the Future

On May 2, multidisciplinary teams of medical and biomedical engineering students from the DrExcel Health student group gathered at Drexel University’s Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building Atrium to present concepts for innovative medical devices. The goal of each team’s concept is to address an unmet need in clinical practice. The event, DrExcel Health Demo Day, is a culmination of yearlong collaboration for members of the student-driven, extracurricular group.


About Sling Health

Sling Health© (formerly IDEA Labs) is a student-run biotechnology incubator that provides resources, training, and mentorship to teams of students (medical, engineering, business, etc) tackling clinical problems by developing innovative solutions.

Sling Health is a non-profit organization started by students at Washington University in St. Louis. Sling Health provides students with collaborative support to pursue entrepreneurship and cross-discipline learning, with the belief that structured opportunity will drive innovation, specifically in the biomedical industry. Sling Health is run by students in several chapters at different universities located throughout the country.

Objectives:

  • Make medical entrepreneurship attainable for students
  • Develop a culture of innovation throughout the country
  • Teach engineering, medical, and business students the skills and processes needed to invent and implement new biomedical technologies
  • Develop novel devices and software applications targeting unmet clinical needs
