Our Commitment to Safety
With the help of the entire Drexel community, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) works diligently to foster and maintain a safe environment for students, faculty, staff and neighbors in the surrounding community.
The department’s holistic, community-oriented approach to safety includes: foot, bike and vehicle patrols by our internationally accredited police department and contracted security officers, a state-of-the-art dispatch center staffed 24/7, walking escort services, DrexelALERT text messages to relay timely information and stay connected to the community, and the use of technologies including closed-circuit cameras, blue-light emergency phones and the Drexel Guardian app. Officers regularly monitor the data and coordinate with other local law enforcement agencies and community organizations to respond to changing needs. Additionally, the Fire and Emergency Services unit provides information and resources to address fire safety, medical emergencies and emergency preparedness services at Drexel.
Public safety is a shared responsibility, and there are many ways for members of the Drexel community to take part. We encourage you to explore the resources that are available, make sure you are signed up for DrexelALERTs, download the Guardian app, attend one of our community engagement events or training workshops, use our walking escort service, follow DPS on Twitter, provide feedback to the department or to the DPS Oversight Committee, and report any crime or suspicious activity timely.
