About the DragonCard and its usages on campus
Welcome to Drexel University!
The DragonCard is the official University ID card for students, faculty, and staff, which also provides access to many buildings and services on the three Drexel University campuses.
The DragonCard must be carried at all times while on University-owned property. It is property of Drexel University and is governed by the rules and regulations set forth by the University. The DragonCard is not transferable and is not permitted to be used by anyone other than the issued cardholder. Please refer to the Student Handbook for additional information regarding DragonCard policies.
It is important to take care of the DragonCard in order for it to work properly. Do not punch holes or deface the card in anyway. Doing so will destroy the proximity chip located inside the card which allows for access to most campus buildings. A $20 fee will be assessed to replace a damaged DragonCard. The replacement ID will automatically deactivate the previously issued ID card. It is also important to keep the DragonCard in a secure location that is away from other magnetic cards that may deactivate the ID card. The DragonCard Office does provide a cardholder with the initial card and encourages everyone to utilize it.
In addition to serving as the official University ID card, the DragonCard can be used to access many services on and off campus.
Dining and Dragon Dollars: The DragonCard can be used to access meal plans and Dragon Dollars accounts. After the initial sign-up is complete, simply present a cashier with the DragonCard, who then swipes the magnetic stripe on the back of the card to access these accounts.
Shuttle Service: Students, faculty and staff can ride the Drexel Shuttles for free simply by showing their DragonCard to the shuttle driver. The shuttles run on and between the three Drexel campuses. For more information and shuttle schedules, click here.
Libraries: Present the DragonCard to enter and utilize the library facilities. The libraries also use the magnetic stripe on the back of the DragonCard to checkout books, print from the computers, and make copies.
Laptop checkout: Present the DragonCard at the Creese Student Center Information Desk, Ross Commons or Hagerty Library to borrow a laptop to utilize Drexel’s wireless network within the building.
Parking Services: Upon signing up for a parking permit, the DragonCard will be activated to grant access to the appropriate lot or garage by either placing the card next to the proximity reader or swiping the magnetic stripe on the card. To sign up for a parking permit on the University City Main Campus, visit the Parking Services Office located in the General Services Building located at 34th and Market Streets. At the Queen Lane Medical Campus, parking is arranged in the DragonCard Office in Room 101.
Daskalakis Athletic Center: All active students are eligible to access the Daskalakis Athletic Center (DAC) at 33rd and Market Streets. The DragonCard is automatically activated to allow access electronically. For more information or problems accessing the DAC, contact the Recreational Sports Office at 215.895.1419.
Residence Halls: University Housing grants electronic building access only to the residence hall in which students are assigned. Students will still need to present their DragonCard to the desk representative once inside the lobby.
After-Hour Facility Access: Persons requiring after-hour access to a campus building should contact the facility manager or department head authorized to grant this access. If you unsure about who to contact, call the Department of Public Safety at 215.895.2822 for the University City Main Campus, 215.762.8687 for the Center City Hahnemann Campus and 215.991.8132 for Queen Lane Medical Campus.
