  • "Raw to Refined" Exhibition Coming to the Pearlstein Gallery

    In January, the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery will host an innovative art exhibition of work fabricated from unconventional materials in collaboration with Philadelphia’s Pentimenti Gallery. “Raw to Refined: String, Tape, Sponges and Vinyl” opens Jan. 14, featuring abstract wall pieces of wood and vinyl, a mural of translucent packing tape, textured wall hangings of sponges, an installation tatted in red twine, and other odd bits of natural and manmade ephemera.

    The Leonard Pearlstein Gallery opens a new interpretive art exhibit today in collaboration with Philadelphia nonprofit artist network InLiquid. “Spatial Translations” features drawings on mylar, oil on canvas and a grouping of sculptures and installations by artists Annette Cords, Brent Crothers, William Cromar and Paul Fabozzi.

    The exhibition will focus on the tumultuous years between 1911 through 1919; a period when the interplay between the fine arts and fashion was particularly strong. We will also welcome Rebecca Jumper Matheson, fashion historian and a faculty member in the History of Art department at the Fashion Institute of Technology, who will speak on Thursday, April 14th at 7 PM.

O Zhang is a graduate of Royal College of Art in London and Central Academy of Art in Beijing and is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center Artist Fellowship (NY).

    New Prints 2009/Autumn features exciting works and inventive processes including three screen printed T-shirts shrink-wrapped in meat packaging, a unique piece screen printed on post-it notes and a work comprised of dust on paper in an aluminum frame.
