Designing a Virtual Museum

July 8, 2015

Students in an undergraduate Interactive Digital Media Workshop have brought new life to the online presence of the Philadelphia Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Through a collaboration with local design firm Electronic Ink, Digital Media professors Troy Finamore and Jervis Thompson led a team of students in the redesign of the organization’s website at a critical time, as they faced a transition from a physical museum to a virtual one. The museum honors the achievements of Jewish athletes and others in the world of sports in the Greater Philadelphia area, and the new responsive website helps to share their stories and the museum’s work in meaningful ways.

The student design team included Dylan Holland, Marcus Brunstrom, Nate Gilbert, Joseph Brady and Sokvanna Seng, and the project was brought to completion by students Keith Miller and Zach Stockmal. The new site features a full digital representation of the museum’s collection of artifacts, photos and ephemera, with exhibit images taken by Westphal Photography alum Mike Arrison. The redesign also includes a new Personal Stories section, engaging visitors with the historical narratives of the athletes, coaches and members of the media in the world of sports.
